Available in a variety of fitter sizes and heights, the move common fitter sizes are 2 5/8 and 3 inch diameter.  The outside glass diameter of a 2 5/8 inch fitter is 2 1/2 inches and the outside diameter of a 3 inch fitter is approximately 2 3/4 inches. 

When determining height for student shades and Gone with the Wind Globe the top of the chimney should extend two to four inches above the top.  Three inch will giv your lamp a more elegant look.
